I’ve been absolutely furious since hearing about Henry Nowak’s murder. However, I only became aware of the case after his killer was sentenced yesterday, WHY?
Yet again, another young lad has had his life taken at the hands of both a murderer and The Police. Regardless of the racial element and the fact that a false accusation of racism was made (again) during the incident, my main issue remains the same: ‘THE SYSTEM’
The criminal justice system is f**ked.
How dare the police handcuff a dying 18-year-old boy? A boy with his whole future ahead of him.
Please tell me why some people can carry a weapon for religious purposes and then use it to stab an innocent young lad eight times in the street. There’s nothing religious about that.
I’ve argued for years that there are serious problems within the criminal justice system and it’s seriously getting out of control.
This case has clearly hit a lot of people hard, myself included. I have a 16-year-old son, and with the way this country is going, there are times I don’t want him going anywhere without me. That’s not how life should be. People should feel safe. Yet this country has felt increasingly unsafe for many years. It’s only now social media, independent journalism and podcasting have opened people’s eyes to stories and cases that many would otherwise never hear about.
I moved out of London because of the decline I was seeing around me. However, the beautiful town I moved to a couple of years ago has also started to decline. If people feel they can’t call the police without fear of being falsely accused, wrongly treated, ignored and even murdered or left to die, then who exactly are they supposed to call?
I have suffered at the hands of the police on multiple occasions, dating back to 2003. I was a young girl who needed help after the horrors I was subjected to by grooming gangs in the UK. Instead, I experienced treatment that left me with a lot of trauma. Later, while in prison, I was also subjected to sexual coercion by a prison officer.
I’ll say it again THE SYSTEM IS F**KED. It has been for years, and trust me when I say it does very little to rehabilitate people. Too often, it seems to fail those who need its protection the most.
Although, I do not promote or condone rioting, violence, or people taking the law into their own hands. I can understand the frustration, anger, and loss of faith many ordinary British people are feeling. When people repeatedly see failures by institutions that are supposed to protect them, it is not difficult to understand why emotions run so high.
Henry Nowak deserved better.
His family deserved better.
And the British public deserve a system they can actually trust.
