Welcome to my: Bipolar Mum Journey
Hi, Iβm Gemma – but online, youβll find me under the alias βBipolar Mum Journeyβ. That name isnβt just a title; itβs exactly what this is. Iβm a mum living with bipolar, on her βBipolar Mum Journeyβ like many other Mums.
A little about me:
Since August 2024, Iβve been podcasting to a global audience, speaking openly about the things most people avoid. I do this for the ones who are still silent, still stuck, still scared. If thatβs you – I get it, Iβve been there. And if Iβve made it this far, that means you can too. Through sharing my lived experience, Iβve also been providing insight to students at universities across the country, raising awareness about the realities of giving birth in prison, how the criminal justice system impacts mothers, and how domestic violence can lead to reactive abuse.
This space holds pieces of my life – growing up in chaos, being groomed, surviving numerous sexual assaults, rape, domestic violence, and the wreckage that followed. I talk about how one abusive relationship can be a life sentence in more ways than one. How my own, led to me being subdued at gunpoint for attempted murder, which led to a 2.5 year prison sentence – where I also gave birth. Itβs not pretty, but itβs real.
This isnβt about being an inspiration. Itβs about being honest.
Shame dies when stories are told!

Activism:
On January 21, 2025, I went to Downing Street to protest against the mass cover-up of group based sexual violence and exploitation – of children in this country. On arrival, I met a fellow female warrior from Wolverhampton who was protesting for the same cause.

As survivors of rape or sexual exploitation we are often vilified, blamed, and left traumatised. Many of us age carrying these scars, only to find ourselves in a GPβs office seeking answers for how we feel. Instead of receiving acknowledgment of the root cause, we are frequently diagnosed with a mental illness, when in reality we are likely suffering from complex post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of being raped, blamed and called liars.
BBC Newsnight:

On Monday, 19th June, I appeared on Newsnight with Victoria Derbyshire. I was part of a panel alongside Baroness Louise Casey. We discussed the Casey Report and the disturbing cover-up surrounding group based sexual violence and exploitation of children in the uk.

One of the key issues we highlighted was how the ethnicity of the perpetrators was either not recorded, later removed, or even scribbled out, an alarming failure in transparency and accountability. What outraged me further was learning that the police had issued cautions for prostitution to around 4,000 girls, aged between 10 and 18, who had been raped. How can that possibly be justified?
In Loving Memory of Diana:
Diana Towers: 16
Rest in peace: Auntie Diana.
Diana was brutally raped, beaten, and burned alive simply for refusing a boyβs advances.
